Business development support - our case studies

BirdLife International’s Forest Impact Accelerator programme

BirdLife International is the world’s largest nature conservation partnership, with local roots and global reach informed by internationally-recognised science. It is dedicated to demonstrating that forests can be preserved for the long-term through proven conservation projects at varying scales and landscapes. However, too often, conservation initiatives do not reach their full impact potential as they are built on traditional grant-based structures with sporadic funding.

The Solution

To tackle this, BirdLife implemented the Forest Impact Accelerator Programme to help its network partners adopt innovative and resilient financing solutions through a programme modelled after start-up incubators in the tech sector. As part of the Accelerator, promising Sustainable Finance Initiatives from BirdLife Partners are selected to receive seed funding, technical mentorship and capacity-building. Terranomics was recruited to help provide technical mentorship and capacity building for organisations in the accelerator, assisting on everything from developing business plans to creating implementation roadmaps for innovative sustainable finance products.

Example of projects that Terranomics has assisted:

ProNatura Sur, Mexico

ProNatura Sur will set up a revolving fund for sustainable resin production in the pine and oak forests of Chiapas, Mexico. This is an opportunity to influence a large area of forest (13,500 ha) and to support a locally led approach – encouraging more people to be involved in resin production and facilitate producers to sign conservation agreements, thereby incentivising the protection of the forest that is needed for their livelihood.

NatureLife Cambodia

NatureLife Cambodia are advancing their REDD+ project, which is at an exciting stage in its development and holds the potential to unlock millions in conservation finance for Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary.
